dinner-thumbnailJoin the Alliance for our 24th Annual Dinner on March 10, 2016 at the Beverly Hilton. The Alliance’s largest fundraising event of the year will honor Fox Television Group chairmen and CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman with the National Champion for Children Award.

Honorary Co-chairs Peter Rice, Rick Rosen and Chase Carey and joined with Dinner Chairs Leslie & Cliff Gilbert-Lurie, Sue Naegle, Susan Friedman and Toni M. Schulman in recognizing Dana and Gary’s commitment to underserved children and positively impacting their local community.

Dana and Gary are a powerful entertainment duo who uses their influence to improve the lives of at-risk children, fight poverty and strengthen access to healthcare. We will present education innovator Richard Martinez, Superintendent of the Pomona Unified School District, with the Francis M. Wheat Community Service Award.

Dana Walden and Gary Newman
Fox Television Group Chairmen and CEOs

Corey Nickols Takes Photos of Dana Walden and Gary NewmanIn July 2014, the two were named Chairmen and CEOs of the Fox Television Group. Their passion for innovative original programming has been apparent with recent mega hits like, “Gotham” and “Empire,” which broke ratings records to become broadcast TV’s No. 1 series. Prior to their current position, Dana and Gary led 20th Century Fox Television for fifteen years. They brought Fox studios to new heights with shows “Modern Family” and “Homeland,” and held a longer tenure than any other major studio heads. When the two are not creating television history, they better the world around them. Gary is a member of the Los Angeles Board of Governors of the Paley Center for Media and serves on the boards of the Hollywood Radio & Television Society, Chrysalis and the Jewish Television Network. Dana sits on the board of UCLA’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center Foundation, the Los Angeles Zoo and Saban Free Clinic.

Page 3_Richard MartinezRichard Martinez is an education pioneer known as a champion for collaboration, urban education and foster children. He was recently selected by the U.S. Department of Education as one of 100 top school leaders in America. He successfully integrated digital learning throughout his district, which resulted in awards for technological innovation in early childhood education from the California School Board Association.

A native of East Los Angeles, Martinez began his career in crisis intervention for the Bell Gardens Police Department before shifting his community-driven career focus to education. In 2009, he was made Superintendent of Schools and this year celebrated his 28th year in education.
