Letter from the CEO
Children in poverty deserve what we want for our own children – a safe home, quality medical care and a good education. The Alliance for Children’s Rights is the leading nonprofit organization in Los Angeles County devoted solely to providing children living in poverty with permanency through adoption and legal guardianship, access to healthcare and an equitable education.
Los Angeles is home to the nation’s largest foster care system. Thousands of children are waiting to be adopted. Each year, 1,500 youth age out of Los Angeles’ foster care system. Nearly half of former foster youth will end up homeless or in jail within their first two years on their own because they don’t have the skills necessary to live independently.
Our staff is made up of legal, clinical and social work professionals who provide advice, referrals and legal assistance. We understand prevailing laws and regulations and can navigate the complex legal and administrative bureaucracies that often deny poor children the support they need. In addition, we recruit, train and support pro bono attorneys to serve underprivileged children.
Through the hard work, passion and dedication of our staff, community volunteers and donors, we have been making the dream of childhood come true for over 20 years. During this time, we have served over 100,000 children and youth.
As you read more about our work, keep in mind that without our help, Los Angeles’ most vulnerable children and youth will slip through the cracks and become another dismal statistic. But with the Alliance in their corner, they have hope for a safer, brighter future.
I thank those of you who have helped us in the past and urge you to continue supporting our work so that the promises we make to children are the promises we keep.
