Step Up Coalition

The  Step Up Coalition is a robust group of advocates spearheaded by the Alliance for Children’s Rights. The goal of Step Up is to ensure that the needs of relative caregivers are met and that the children placed with them receive the same benefits, supports and services available to children in non-relative placements.

The collective influence of this group coupled with the strong voices of relative caregivers across California has helped influence California legislators to better support foster children in relative homes. Find out more about recent changes benefitting children placed with relative caregivers.

If you are a relative caregiver, or you work with kin families, visit stepupforkin.org and join the Step Up Coalition.

In 2017, the Step Up Coalition helped develop the Resource Family Approval Guidebook that is used statewide to help all current and potential foster caregivers, including relatives, navigate the approval process. Find it here.
