When Solidarity Counts

The Alliance lobbied successfully for emergency funding from the moment of placement–an issue that disproportionately affects relative caregivers. Caregivers–including grandmothers and grandfathers, uncles and aunts, and siblings–from across California joined us in Sacramento to share their stories. Senator Holly Mitchell appears in the video during a meeting in which she invited these kinship families to speak with her directly about their plight. Our campaign eventually led to funding from the moment a child enters an emergency foster care placement, to help caregivers meet the needs of those children and make adjustments that are necessary to achieving stability.
