Foster Youth Education: Recent Webinars on Key Foster Youth Rights
Statewide policy webinars give us the chance to explore a broader range of issues, and to include key statewide partners. These webinars will not get into as much detail on each subject as the Toolkit webinars below, but will give a strong overview for each subject area covered, including recent data and updates.
Promoting Educational Rights and Ensuring School Stability
An overview of the educational rights of students in foster care, including their right to remain in their school of origin, discussing how caregivers, administrators, providers, judges, attorneys and social workers can help youth achieve stability and success in school.
School and Placement Stability: Determining Best Interest for Children
This webinar provided the definition of ‘best interest’ and ‘school of origin.’ Our discussion also addressed questions including: Why is a best interest determination so important?; when is a best interest determination made and by whom?, and what are the key elements of an effective determination?
Back to School: Preparing Foster Youth for School Year Success
This webinar provided timely and critical information on foster youth students’ rights and important considerations for educational rights holders and resource families about school transportation plans, individualized education programs (IEPs) and other resources to support the educational progress of children in foster care.
Foster Youth Education Toolkit Webinars
Trainings allow us to dive deeper into the sections of the Foster Youth Education Toolkit and are designed for all school personnel who work with foster youth. In each subject area, participants will learn applicable laws, best practices and how to use (or modify) the provided tools to meet the education needs of foster youth in a meaningful way.
